Small-space garden plan

A simple medicinal herb garden layout.

Start with the site, not the seed packets. This flexible 10-plant sketch helps you place taller herbs, preserve access, and adapt the bed to your own climate.

A planning sketch—not a one-size-fits-all planting prescription.

Before you sow

Four checks prevent most layout mistakes.

A good plan responds to your yard. Record the light, drainage, local growing zone, and the mature size printed on each packet before you decide where anything belongs.

Map the light

Watch the site through the day. Mark direct sun, afternoon shade, and shadows from fences or buildings.

Plan for height

Keep taller mature plants toward the back or north edge so they are less likely to shade shorter neighbors.

Keep a path

Every plant should be reachable without stepping into the bed. Split one large bed into two if access is tight.

The 10-plant sketch

Place by mature height, then adjust.

The sketch gives you a starting order. Rotate it for your sun direction, change spacing to match the seed packets, and separate plants when their water needs do not match.

Your plant list

Ten labels for your paper plan.

Write these names on movable cards before marking the soil. Rearranging paper is easier than relocating seedlings.

A convenient option

Prefer one coordinated seed order?

You can buy the seeds individually. The third-party Medicinal Garden Kit is another option: the seller currently lists all ten plants shown above and includes its own growing guide.

We have not grown or independently tested the full kit. Check the current contents, shipping details, and packet instructions before ordering.

Common questions

Before you choose a bed.

Does this exact layout work in every USDA zone?

No. It is a planning framework. Verify the hardiness, sowing window, mature size, and local guidance for every variety before planting.

Can I use containers instead?

Containers can solve space and soil conflicts, but their depth and watering needs vary by plant. Use the mature-size information on the seed packet to choose each container.

Do I need to buy the featured kit?

No. You can source seeds individually from a supplier you trust. The featured kit is included as a convenient third-party option.

Does this page provide herbal remedies?

No. Pure Heal Garden provides gardening information here. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition.
